What Does ELIDZ Bursary Cover?

Students residing in the Eastern Cape can apply for bursaries to pursue undergraduate studies in Mathematics, Science, Technology, and related fields. ELIDZ’s Bursary program aims to support Eastern Cape matriculants in studying Mathematics, Science, and Technology – helping to build much-needed skills in the province. The bursary covers expenses up to R50,000, including registration fees, tuition fees, prescribed books, approved study materials, accommodation, and meals in a university-managed residence.

Note that the bursary does not cover any existing student debts or loans. Students won’t be required to repay the bursary, but they’ll need to stick to a service-binding agreement. Students will need to complete vacation work at IDZ during the mid-year or end-of-year holidays for as as long as they have the bursary.

Recipients will need to sign a Bursray Agreement with the East London IDZ. The bursary is granted for one academic year at a time and can be renewed annually as long as students maintain a minimum average of 60% in their final exams. Students need to attend progress monitoring interviews throughout the duration of their bursary.

  • First of all, download the ELIDZ Bursary application form. After downloading it, fill it out using authentic and up-to-date details.
  • After completing the form, prepare the following relevant documents:
    • Certified copy of ID documents.
    • Certified copy of Matric certificate.
    • A certified copy of your most recent academic record or transcript, stamped and on the institution’s letterhead, if you’re currently studying.
    • Proof of acceptance or provisional acceptance from the university.
    • Proof of residence for parents or guardians (e.g., utility bill, credit store account, or affidavit).
    • Proof of income for parents or guardians (latest payslips if employed – not older than 3 months, affidavit if unemployed, or SASSA letter if receiving a state grant).
    • A one-page motivational letter explaining why you deserve the bursary.
    • Certified copies of any achievement or merit certificate, if applicable.
    • A one-page testimonial letter from a respected community member.
