What are the Qualification Requirements For DMRE Bursary?

Before applying, applicants must meet the following minimum entry criteria. Be aware that if all requirements are not met, your application will not be considered. The following are the qualification requirements for DMRE bursary:

  • Applicants must be South African citizens.
  • Applicants must be 35 years old or younger.
  • Applicants must either be currently in Matric or have already completed it.
  • A minimum of level 6 in Pure Mathematics and Science in Matric is required.
  • Applicants must be enrolled or planning to study full-time in one of the fields listed in the above section. Only undergraduate students are eligible for funding; postgraduate qualifications will not be supported.
  • Applicants must be studying or have been accepted/registered at a University or University of Technology in South Africa.
  • Applicants must demonstrate financial need.
  • Applicants must come from a disadvantaged social background and from a rural area.
  • Applicants must be currently unemployed.
  • First-year students will be given preferences.
  • Female students and students with disabilities will be given preferences.

  • The first step is to download the DMRE Bursary application form. After downloading the PDF format, fill out the form using accurate and up-to-date information, ensuring all fields are completed as required.
  • Next, along with the application form, gather the following relevant documents:
    • Certified copy of your ID document.
    • A certified copy of your matric certificate or most recent academic results is required.
    • Certified copy of your current academic transcript/record, if you are currently studying.
    • Proof of tertiary registration or acceptance, provided on the institution’s letterhead.
    • Certified copies of your parents’ or guardians’ ID documents.
    • Certified copy of your parent’s death certificate, if applicable.
    • An affidavit if you’re unsure of the whereabouts of one or both parents.
    • Proof of income from your parents or guardians (payslips not older than 3 months if employed, or an affidavit if unemployed).
    • Proof of residence (either a municipal utility bill not older than 3 months, a stamped letter from the tribal authority, or a sworn affidavit).
