Astron Energy runs one of the biggest crude oil refineries in Cape Town, producing petrol, jet fuel, diesel, LPG, bitumen gas, and other specialty products daily, with a capacity of 100,000 barrels per day. Astron Energy operates a Lubricants Manufacturing Plant in Durban, which is among the top blending and base oil storage facilities.

The bursary will fully cover expenses such as tuition fees, textbooks, accommodation, meals, and monthly allowance. Students will also have access to the Work Readiness Programme and receive academic support through private tutoring.
Candidates who are shortlisted will be notified by January 31, 2025. If you haven’t heard back by then, it means your application was unsuccessful. Applicants who are accepted will be required to sign a sponsor-provided agreement. Graduates must complete a work-back period equal to the number of years funded by the bursary.
Who Qualifies for the Astron Energy Bursary?
Astron Energy has certain requirements for the bursary that every applicant must fulfill. If you fail to satisfy the criteria, your application will not be considered. The following are the eligibility requirements for the bursary:
- Applicants must be South African citizens.
- Applicants must be younger than 35 years.
- You must be in Matric or have already completed it.
- Applicants must be studying or planning to study full-time towards a qualification in one of the fields mentioned in the above section (Diploma, Advanced Diploma, Degree, Master’s, etc).
- Applicants must be pursuing their qualification for the first time and should not be repeating a degree.
- Applicants must be enrolled at a registered higher education institution in South Africa, including community colleges, private colleges, and TVETs.
- You must have attained a minimum overall average of 70% in your most recent full academic year.
- Applicants must not be employed full-time.

- Certified copy of ID documents.
- Certified copy of the final Grade 11 year end-report with an official school stamp (for current Matric students).

- Acceptance or provisional acceptance letter for 2025 from an accredited institution (for current Matric students).
- Certified copy of the Matric certificate (for those who have completed Matric).
- Certified copy of full tertiary academic records for all years of study, including records from multiple institutions (if currently enrolled in tertiary education).
- Certified copy of the latest or June 2024 academic transcripts (or an official institution report).
- Official 2024 university fee statement. If you live off campus, include your lease agreement.
- Certified copy of 2024 proof of registration (if currently studying).
- Proof of other bursary awards or NSFAS, such as a bursary agreement, letter, or offer (if applicable).
- Certified copy of parents’ or guardians’ ID documents or death certificate (if deceased).
- For applicants under 18: a signed consent form completed by a parent or guardian.
- If disabled, provide a doctor’s letter and a completed Department of Labour Employment Equity Act (EEA1) form.
